Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s local workforce development board, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Robert Knight Workforce Board of Distinction Award at the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) The Forum 2026.
This prestigious national award recognizes a local workforce board whose impact extends beyond its region to strengthen the broader workforce system across the country. Workforce Connections was honored for its innovative, customer-centered approach that is not only transforming service delivery in Southern Nevada, but also serving as a model for workforce systems nationwide.
Through Nevada’s EmployNV Hub network—American Job Centers strategically located in libraries, city halls, community centers, Nevada’s largest chamber of commerce, and even a private business—Workforce Connections has helped expand the reach of critical services by meeting job seekers and employers in the neighborhoods where they live and work, all without increasing system costs. This scalable model has drawn national attention for its ability to improve access, particularly in diverse communities.
In addition, Workforce Connections has deepened regional partnerships with economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, library districts and other community organizations to better align workforce investments with employer needs. These collaborations are breaking down silos to drive economic impact while advancing practices that can be replicated in other regions.
“To be recognized by our peers on a national stage is a tremendous honor,” said Jaime Cruz, Executive Director of Workforce Connections. “This award reflects the strength of our partnerships here in Southern Nevada and our ongoing commitment to advancing solutions that help communities across the country build stronger, more skilled workforces that meet employer needs.”
The award is named for Robert “Bob” Knight, founder of the National Association of Private Industry Councils—now NAWB—whose leadership helped shape the modern workforce development system.
The Forum 2026, held in Las Vegas in March, marked the first time in more than 30 years the nation’s premier workforce development conference took place outside of Washington, D.C.
