LAS VEGAS (May 11, 2026) – Linda Perez, CEO of The Shade Tree, a 24-hour publicly accessible shelter designed to specifically meet the needs of those escaping domestic violence, human trafficking and homelessness, their children and pets (through a partnership with Noah’s Animal House), is pleased to announce the appointment of Jaye A. Straus to the nonprofit’s board of trustees.
Straus, a third-generation native Nevadan and estate planning attorney, follows her mother, Heidi Sarno Straus, who previously served as a board member for The Shade Tree, into service for the 37-year Southern Nevada nonprofit.
“We are thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with the Sarno-Straus family as we welcome Jaye Straus to our board of trustees,” said Perez. “Jaye’s legal expertise and heartfelt commitment to service will be invaluable as we continue to expand our impact. Her dedication to our mission strengthens our ability to serve survivors and families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.”
After earning her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami, Straus went on to graduate from the University of Miami School of Law with a Master of Laws in Estate Planning in 2023, the same year she was admitted to practice in Nevada. Before opening the Law Offices of Jaye A. Strauss, LLC, Straus developed great pride for her community and commitment to service through her family’s longstanding business and philanthropic leadership in Southern Nevada. She is particularly drawn to protecting and empowering women and children in need – hallmarks of The Shade Tree’s mission.
“It is an incredible honor to join The Shade Tree’s board and to continue my family’s commitment to an organization that has meant so much to our community,” said Straus. “The Shade Tree provides safety, dignity and hope to women and children as they navigate crisis and rebuild their lives. I look forward to contributing my legal expertise and passion for advocacy to help strengthen the organization’s mission and ensure survivors have access to the resources and support they deserve.”
The Shade Tree, located at 1 West Owens Ave., has served Southern Nevada for more than 37 years. The organization offers residential areas with sleeping rooms, a children’s activity center, meals, case management services, programming, housing assistance and more.
