First-of-its-kind spring event creates space for connection, community and support
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada (Candlelighters) hosted its inaugural Spring Fling last month, bringing together 229 local children and their families who have been impacted by childhood cancer for an afternoon of connection, celebration and community.
Candlelighters, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit, has supported children and families for 48 years through programs designed to meet the unique challenges of childhood cancer. Spring Fling marked the organization’s first-of-its-kind event during the spring season, created to address the isolation many experience during a diagnosis. The gathering brought together those in active treatment, survivorship or bereavement, creating a space to connect with others who understand their journey. Efforts like Spring Fling play a critical role in supporting emotional well-being beyond medical care.
Held at Sunset Park, the private event featured a variety of activities for families, including an egg hunt, carnival-style games, face painting, superhero characters in costume and music and interactive entertainment. For Candlelighters families, the event offered a moment of normalcy — a space for kids to simply be kids and for families to know they do not have to fight cancer alone.
“Families navigating childhood cancer carry so much every day, and that experience can often feel isolating,” said Amy King, Chief Development Officer, Candlelighters. “Spring Fling is about creating a space where families can come together, connect and experience joy alongside others who understand what they’re going through. Moments like this help strengthen the connections that carry families through every stage of their journey.”
Spring Fling also highlighted strong collaboration across the Las Vegas community, raising $77,500 to directly support Candlelighters programs and services for local families impacted by childhood cancer. With support from partners including the Las Vegas Raiders, Las Vegas A’s, SBGA (Small Business Growth Alliance) and Caesars Entertainment, the event reinforced a shared commitment to ensuring families impacted by childhood cancer have access to critical resources, connection and care.
