CAMCO initiates summer heat safety protocol for property managers performing community inspections
CAMCO of Nevada, one of the state’s largest HOA management companies, has initiated its summer heat protection protocol for community managers. The program includes measures to keep managers safe when they perform necessary periodic inspections of HOA communities during times of excessive heat.
Under the protocol, all managers must have OSHA’s Heat Safety Tool app downloaded on their phones. The app allows them to calculate the heat index and gauge risk levels outside. All managers must also log their inspections on a calendar before performing them. The information is then used by staff to follow up with managers in the field throughout the day. Managers also have access to cooling vests, towels, UV protective umbrellas, and free water at all times. The protocol was initiated two years ago by company Vice President, Mozell Williams.
“They have the app on their phones all year long, but this time of year, we start reminding them to check the heat index before they leave for an inspection,” said Renee Smith, CAMCO’s division director of Portfolio Development. “We have people contacting them every hour to ensure they are hydrated and feeling okay. We find that even in cases where managers are driving in a community, they are getting in and out of the car to inspect common areas and they may not realize how hot it is.”
CAMCO manages nearly 300 HOAs in Nevada. To learn more, visit camconevada.com or search for @CAMCONevada on Facebook.
