CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Open Enrollment Period through NevadaHealthLink.com begins today, November 1 and runs through January 15, offering 163 Qualified Health Plans among eight brand-name, private insurance carriers. Open enrollment is one of the only times of year Nevadans can freely enroll in health insurance without experiencing a Qualifying Life Event.
Nevada Health Link is the state’s online marketplace for affordable and quality health insurance, available to any qualified Nevadan in need of health coverage. With the state’s commitment to keeping Nevadans healthy and expanding access to affordable health insurance, the Office of Governor Joe Lombardo officially established November 1, the annual start of Open Enrollment, as “Nevada Health Coverage Day.”
At a press conference kicking off the Open Enrollment Period Wednesday morning, Allison Genco, Nevada Public Health Resource Officer of the Governor’s office, proclaimed, “Nevada Health Coverage Day will serve as a reminder of the state’s commitment to expanding health care access, reducing disparities in health care outcomes, and promoting the health and financial security of all Nevadans. Nevada Health Coverage will also serve to foster collaboration among government agencies, health care providers, community organizations, and insurers, who are all working together to improve the lives of Nevadans.”
Nevada Health Link representatives joined in celebration of Nevada Health Coverage Day and encouraged uninsured and underinsured Nevadans to seek comprehensive and budget-friendly coverage during Open Enrollment.
“On this momentous day, we celebrate not just the establishment of Nevada Health Coverage Day, but a commitment to the health and well-being of every Nevadan,” said Russell Cook, Executive Director of Nevada Health Link. “We urge all Nevadans to explore the plans on NevadaHealthLink.com, take advantage of the financial assistance that is available to them, and enroll in a plan that suits their budget and health needs. Together, we can build a healthier and more secure future for our great state.”
NevadaHealthLink.com is the only place Nevadans can access federal financial assistance to bring down the cost of monthly premiums. As outlined in the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress in 2022, expanded financial assistance for consumers will continue to be available during the 2024 Open Enrollment Period. These expanded subsidies have made a significant impact on the affordability of plans, helping bring down the cost of monthly premiums for Nevadans making over 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Due to this expansion, nearly 9 out of 10 Nevada Health Link enrollees are eligible to receive financial assistance, with almost half of all enrollees paying a net premium of $100 or less for their monthly plan.
Nevadans eligible for subsidies on Nevada Health Link include:
-
Those who do not have employer-sponsored health insurance, including those who are self-employed and gig workers
-
Those who do not qualify for Medicare (65+) or Medicaid (income-based)
-
New Nevada residents
Nevada Health Link is a great option for those seeking comprehensive and cost effective coverage. To qualify, you must be a Nevada resident with a valid Nevada ID and address, and you must be a United States citizen or be lawfully present in the United States. For immigrant or mixed-status families, Nevada Health Link has resources available online.
Nevadans can easily and anonymously determine their eligibility for coverage through Nevada Health Link by choosing the ‘Browse for health & dental plans’ option and completing a brief online questionnaire covering their income and household composition.
Nevadans interested in enrolling with the free assistance of a Broker/Agent or Navigator/Assister should visit NevadaHealthLink.com and use the “Find Local Assistance” page to locate a certified enrollment professional near them. These professionals can provide expert guidance throughout the enrollment process in multiple languages. Brokers/Agents can also be reached by calling 1-800-547-2927 and choosing the ‘Find a Broker’ option, seven days a week during open enrollment (excluding holidays) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For a more immediate connection, Nevada Health Link also offers a user-friendly ‘chat’ feature on the enrollment website, connecting Nevadans directly to knowledgeable representatives from its call center.
“The 2024 Open Enrollment Period is not just about signing up for a plan; it’s about taking a proactive step towards your health, well-being, and future finances,” said Rosa Alejandre, Navigator Program Manager of Nevada Health Link. “With a pool of over 700 licensed enrollment professionals across the state, our team is eager to help each and every Nevadan navigate the path to comprehensive and budget-friendly coverage.”
Plan Year 2024 Open Enrollment Period will run from November 1, 2023 through January 15, 2024. Anyone who enrolls between November 1 and by 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2023, will have health insurance coverage effective on January 1, 2024. For those who enroll between January 1 and January 15, coverage will begin February 1, 2024.
163 Qualified Health Plans are offered across eight brand-name, private insurance carriers including Aetna Health, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Plan of Nevada (HPN), Hometown Health, Imperial Health Plan, Molina Healthcare, Select Health, and SilverSummit Healthplan (Ambetter).
