Dan Stewart a fourth generation Nevadan, accompanied by family members, filed for re-election today at City Hall in Henderson. Councilman Stewart has received early endorsements by both the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.
“I feel my record of service reflects on what I have accomplished in my past term, and I am excited to begin yet another chapter in the place I call home,” said Stewart.
Stewart was appointed to the Henderson City Council in January 2017, representing Ward IV and subsequently elected in 2019.
Stewart represents Henderson on the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) for which he is vice-chairman, the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition, and the Clark County Debt Management Commission for which he is vice- chairman. In addition, Stewart serves on the Colorado River Commission of Nevada as an appointee from SNWA. He was a cofounder of Nevada State University and was on the Nevada State University Foundation for 20 years and served as chair of the Foundation for two years. He has also represented the city on the Board of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.
Having always been an advocate for quality education, in 2022 Stewart spearheaded the Community School District Initiative (CSI). Nevada’s 17 school districts are currently structured by county boundaries, not the community or population considerations. This has resulted in disproportionately large school districts where students, parents, families, and teachers have had to pay the price. By returning schools to the community through a statutory initiative, municipalities and cities regain control and can form their own “Community School District” that is adjusted to the size of the community.
Before joining the City Council, Stewart served by gubernatorial appointment on the State of Nevada Commission on Ethics from 2015 to 2016. He also received a gubernatorial appointment to serve on the Colorado River commission from 2016 to 2018. From 2012 to 2015, he served as vice chair of the City of Henderson Planning Commission as well as the District Chairman of the Eldorado District Boy Scouts of America. He served as a trustee on the St. Rose Hospital Foundation Board for 10 years. Stewart also has served on the Southern Nevada Water Authority Integrated Resource Planning and Integrated Water Planning Advisory Committees, the UNLV Engineering Advisory Council, and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee.
Stewart completed the Harvard University Advanced Management Development Program in 2003 and holds a master’s degree in construction engineering and management from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Brigham Young University.
Councilman Stewart and his wife Mary are proud to be Henderson residents of 45 years. In his spare time he focuses on his family, church, and hobbies, including golf and flying.
