Monster Fish and research associate professor at the University
of Nevada, Reno, has spent the past twenty-five years on a
quest to find the world’s largest freshwater fish.
RENO, Nev. — Dr. Zeb Hogan, research associate professor at the University of Nevada, Reno and host of National Geographic’s “Monster Fish,” has spent decades studying giants of the deep. The globetrotting scientist teamed up with award-winning journalist Stefan Lovgren to release “Chasing Giants: In Search of the World’s Largest Freshwater Fish,” a captivating book that dives into the mysterious world of the colossal creatures featured in the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum’s (The Discovery) latest exhibition, Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants.
The expansive new text co-authored by Hogan and Lovgren tells the remarkable and troubling story of the world’s largest freshwater fish, taking readers across the globe where they will encounter the mysteries of some of the oldest, largest and most bizarre creatures on Earth. “Chasing Giants: In Search of the World’s Largest Freshwater Fish” explores the different ways the giant fish impact various human cultures and chronicles a race against the clock to find and protect these ancient leviathans before they disappear forever.
Dr. Zeb Hogan’s work is also showcased at The Discovery’s Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants. The large-scale exhibition features 6,000 square feet of hands-on interactive exhibits, immersive video installations and stunning life-size sculptures of giant freshwater fish measuring six feet or longer and weighing more than 200 pounds. From mythical tales and storied traditions, to threats and conservation efforts, visitors will gain a greater appreciation for the important role these monstrous fish play in both culture and ecosystems.
“Chasing Giants: In Search of the World’s Largest Freshwater Fish” is available from unpress.nevada.edu, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and wherever books are sold. Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants will be on exhibit at The Discovery through Sunday, January 7, 2024 and is included with museum admission. Visit www.nvdm.org for more information.
