LAS VEGAS (March 30, 2026) – As increasing health care costs are the subject of debate nationwide, Teachers Health Trust (THT), the 42 year old self-funded, nonprofit health insurance plan for educators in Clark County, Nevada, is offering all members expedited access to health care at low or no cost through its Health Investment Program, which continues to add new services and providers.
“It was amazing to be able to schedule a medical appointment without a referral and within the next day or two of calling instead of waiting weeks,” said John Kennett, a THT member and teacher at Cartwright Elementary School who visited Optimal Therapy in Henderson as part of the Health Investment Program. “Plus, there was no copay for the appointment, saving me money. The program THT has created is what is right with health care today.”
Available to all THT members, the groundbreaking Health Investment Program offers providers in more than a dozen specialties, including family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics / gynecology, menopause care, maternal fetal medicine, physical therapy, lab testing, oncology and hematology, in-home/mobile urgent care, and behavioral health services for both adults and adolescents. Most recently, psychiatry, dermatology, endocrinology and cardiology services were added, and more providers across all specialties joined as partners.
Since launching in October 2024, the Health Investment Program has been utilized by more than 6,300 THT members who made more than 28,600 appointments with a trusted network of local providers strategically located across the Las Vegas Valley who commit to offer priority access to appointments to reduce the wait times for THT members. The services are also available without the need to obtain a referral in advance.
Most of the services of the participating providers are covered 100 percent by THT, which means they are provided at no cost to members. Some specialty services are offered at a lower, reduced copay. As a result of THT covering costs like copays and amounts that would have typically gone towards a deductible, THT members who utilize the program have saved more than $556,000 since its debut in late 2024.
“We truly believe that reducing barriers to care is better for our members’ health and reduces overall costs in the long run, and our Health Investment Program has proven to be a successful and innovative solution to do this,” said Tom Zumtobel, CEO of the Teachers Health Trust. “We created it to reduce the financial burden of health care for educators in Clark County and to offer them more timely access to care. By incentivizing and contracting directly with a select group of health care providers, we achieve both goals.”
