LAS VEGAS and RENO, NEV. – At its March 21, 2024 Residential Recovery Fund Committee meeting, the Nevada State Contractors Board awarded 15 homeowners who were financially harmed by licensed contractors a total of $290,473 in Residential Recovery Funds.
“There is an expectation of trust when homeowners invite a licensed contractor into their home for residential construction projects. But when licensed contractors fail to meet their obligations, the law provides the Residential Recovery Fund as a remedy to help Nevada homeowners,” said NSCB Executive Officer Margi Grein.
One homeowner received $37,000 for abandonment by G.C. Construction, License #86527. Investigators found the company took the homeowner’s money, then never showed up to do the work.
The largest group, five homeowners, received a total award of $89,000 caused by S&E Contracting, Inc., DBA Made in the Shade, License #85711. The NSCB has revoked its license.
Lastly, two homeowners received awards totaling $36,500 for harmed caused by residential solar companies:
- Lifetime Power LLC, License #87632
- Solarize LLC DBA Get Solarize, License #86002
If you are contemplating any type of home improvement project, the Nevada State Contractors Board urges you to:
- Hire only licensed contractors.
- Obtain a minimum of three bids.
- Never pay cash. Always use a check or credit card.
- Keep down payments to no more than 10 percent of the total contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.
- Never sign a contract by anyone who is rushing you.
- Always pay close attention to the terms of the contract – do not sign until you understand and agree.
