Call to Action Foundation today celebrated the grand opening of ‘The Afton’ affordable housing apartments designed to accommodate individuals and couples 55 and olderLocal dignitaries, community partners and supporters gathered at Prater Way for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new property, which brings much-needed affordable housing to an underserved population.
Located at 1275 E. Prater Way in Sparks, The Afton is a three-story, 142-unit community designed to meet the needs of the 55+ population. Built by Northern Nevada-based construction company Metcalf Builders, the development features a clubhouse, 3 fitness center, valet trash service, and covered parking. The community offers a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, with all units designated for senior residents. All units are priced as all-inclusive for individuals earning 80 percent or less of the Area Median Income.
“We are proud to open The Afton and expand access to safe, high-quality housing for seniors in our community,” said Drew Maggelet, Director of Housing for the Call to Action Foundation. “This development reflects our commitment to serving those who are often overlooked by providing not just affordable housing, but a place where residents can feel secure, connected and supported. We are grateful to our partners and community leaders who helped bring this vision to life.”
Unlike many other affordable housing projects, The Afton was developed without federal funding, thanks to the equity provided by the Call to Action Foundation, Zions Bank (Nevada State Bank), and the support of the State of Nevada Housing Division.
“We are honored to have partnered on a project that will have a lasting impact on the Reno community,” said Bryce Clutts, President and CEO of Metcalf Builders. “From the construction process to the final details, our team was committed to creating a space that supports residents’ needs and enhances their quality of life for years to come.”
