Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center Launched
Panasonic Energy, in partnership with Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), has launched the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Reno. The center aims to foster innovation and education in manufacturing with a commitment toward advancing STEM education and technology. Outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, the center will help students gain practical experience in advanced manufacturing through hands-on training and immersive learning experience.
Medical Board Launches Fingerprinting Program
The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners, which regulates medical professionals, has added a digital fingerprinting option as part of its licensing process. The option is available to physicians, physician assistants, respiratory care practitioners, perfusionists and anesthesiologist assistants. Anyone applying to the board for licensure must submit to a criminal background investigation, this option will provide an alternative to mailed forms in that process.
The Boys & Girls Club Receives Funds for Early Learning
The Nevada Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs has announced bipartisan approval of a statewide initiative to expand early learning centers and childcare access for Nevada families. The initiative was proposed by Governor Joe Lombardo in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs and approved last month by the Interim Finance Committee. Pulling $16.7 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) investment, the initiative will fund 14 projects statewide with collaboration from seven independent Boys & Girls Club organizations.
Engineering Internship Announces Successful First Year
Housed in the College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), StepUp & StartUp (SUSU) was created in February 2023 and funded by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). The program reimburses employers for a student’s paid internship with small technology startups. SUSU received $4 million from GOED which provided paid internships for 50 engineering students at UNLV and supported 24 local startup technology companies.
