School’s toy drive brings in hundreds of toys to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada.
Las Vegas Day School’s Preschool through Eighth grade students donated 430 toys during the school’s annual toy drive last week. The toys will go to HELP of Southern Nevada’s Holiday Programs which provide holiday toys to children in need.
The Las Vegas Day School’s Student Council members volunteered for morning shifts before school to collect the donations from LVDS students. For their recent food drive in November, the school moved to a virtual platform for parents to make monetary donations, which was a great success raising more than $5,700. HELP of Southern Nevada used those funds to purchase Thanksgiving meals for hundreds of families.
Student Council sponsor Mrs. Robyn Gabe felt it was important to keep the toy drive in-person. “There is something special about a child holding the toy themselves then willingly – happily – giving it away for someone else to enjoy.” And nearly 430 children did just that.
In addition to the toy drive, Las Vegas Day School’s National Junior Honor Society also participates in HELP’s Adopt-A-Family program. Members of the Honor Society volunteered to go shopping after school. They enjoyed picking out items to meet the needs and wants of the family they selected.
Ms. Tina Contini, sponsor of LVDS’s National Junior Honor Society, and Mrs. Gabe have helped instill the importance of giving back to the community for their students. HELP of Southern Nevada is just one of the local charities their drives benefit.
