Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada Expands Downtown St. Vincent’s Thrift Store to Meet Growing Community Demand

Thrift-Store-heroFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada Expands Downtown St. Vincent’s Thrift Store to Meet Growing Community Demand

Reno, Nev. (July 22, 2026) – RENO, Nev. – Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (CCNN) is expanding its St. Vincent’s Thrift Store in downtown Reno for the second time this year, adding nearly 4,000 square feet of retail space to better serve shoppers while increasing support for the organization’s poverty-relief programs.

The latest expansion brings the downtown store to approximately 18,000 square feet, creating additional space for affordable clothing, jewelry, household goods, furniture and other essentials. The St. Vincent’s Thrift Store will be closed July 29 and 30 to complete the expansion and will reopen to the public on Friday, July 31.

The expansion follows an earlier growth phase completed in March after CCNN relocated its food pantry, allowing the thrift store to increase its footprint with upgraded checkout stations, expanded merchandise and parking. The additional retail space will further enhance the shopping experience while generating additional revenue to support Catholic Charities’ critical services for individuals and families throughout Northern Nevada.

The timing comes as shoppers prepare for two of the region’s busiest retail seasons. Thrift stores have become increasingly popular destinations for families shopping for affordable back-to-school clothing and supplies, as well as for Burning Man participants seeking unique apparel, costumes, accessories and camping essentials.

The National Retail Federation recently forecast retail sales to increase 4.4 percent this year, reflecting continued consumer demand. CCNN’s expanded thrift store is well-positioned to meet that demand while providing an affordable shopping option for the community and helping fund programs that serve more than 40,000 people each month across Northern Nevada.

“Our thrift stores are much more than places to find great deals,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.  “They’re an investment in our community. Whether families are shopping for back-to-school essentials, Burners are preparing for their annual adventure, or someone is simply looking for quality, affordable items, every purchase helps fund programs that provide food, emergency assistance and hope to our neighbors in need. This expansion allows us to welcome more shoppers while strengthening our ability to serve Northern Nevada.”

Donations can be made at either of the two St. Vincent’s Thrift Stores in the Reno-Sparks area: St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop at 500 East Fourth Street in Reno and St. Vincent’s Super Thrift at 190 E. Glendale Avenue in Sparks. Both accept donations daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about the thrift stores, visit https://ccsnn.org/pages/thrift-stores.  In addition, CCNN Drop-Off Centers are conveniently located close to neighborhoods for ease of use. A full list of locations is provided below or available online at https://ccsnn.org/pages/donation-drop-off-locations

The proceeds generated from the sale of donated items at the Thrift Stores contribute to funding the poverty assistance programs run by Catholic Charities. These programs include serving 1,400 daily hot meals in the St. Vincent’s Dining Room, providing food through the Food Pantry, and supporting the employment of program residents.
